FEATURED REVACTIVIST

Meet the Yoga Gangsters.
Yoga teacher, writer and
activist Terri Cooper founded
the organization in 2008.
Cooper was already volunteering as a yoga teacher in some of Miami’s underserved communities when she read an article about how many Miami schools were failing. Despite
the failing schools, the state of Florida decided to cut the education budget; alternately, there were plans to build several new prisons.
These policy discrepancies sparked Cooper to take the work she was already doing in area shelters and start a nonprofit dedicated to using the science and practice of yoga to empower youth and help them address and overcome their personal traumas, as well as the symptoms of poverty.
The organization also assists youth in career training and job placement. Find out more about Cooper, the Yoga Gangsters and other yogis for change in our blog "Asanas for Change."
